Mt. Rinjani trekking is the most trekkers’ program choice and suitable for beginners. You will spend 4 days and 3 nights for Mt. Rinjani trekking starting from Sembalun village to Senaru crater lake, Hot spring, Crater Rim Summit and finish at Senaru village.
OVERVIEW
The trek will start from the Sembalun village with an altitude of 1100 m and will also take place in the Sembalun village. This route will be pampered with a vast landscape, a little long path and a bit hot during crossing the meadow, to get to the edge of the crater with the altitude of 2600 m you will need a lot of stamina because you have to climb five hills which are very high and challenging. On the second day is the struggle to reach the summit with a height of 3.726m, starting from 3 a.m in order to get the sun rise over the summit,
In addition to the summit you will also be visiting and bathing in the lake and hot spring. You will also be camping in the second crater which landscape is incredible and we make sure it is amazing for you, and you will descend the tropical rainforest as the last day of the Rinjani Mountain adventure.

Itinerary
Your adventure begins in Sembalun Village at an elevation of 1,060m above sea level, where you’ll start your trek through rolling savannahs and open landscapes. Covering a distance of 9.6km, the trail ascends gradually before the final, more challenging climb to the Sembalun Crater Rim campsite at 2,620m elevation. With an elevation gain of 1,560m, this day offers stunning views and a rewarding sense of accomplishment as you settle in for the night under the stars.
Approximate Timeline:
04:00 AM – Collection from accommodation (time depends on location). If staying in Senaru, collection will be at 05:30.
06:00 AM – Breakfast and briefing at Rinjani Climbing Touts, Senaru. Equipment issued. Leave excess luggage in secure storage.
06:45 AM – Depart Senaru for Sembalun Village, East Lombok.
07:45 AM – Registration at RTC Sembalun. Basic medical check mandatory.
09:00 AM – Commence Mount Rinjani trek from gate, 1060m AMSL (above mean sea level).
11:00 AM – Arrive at Pos.1 “Pemantuan”, 1300m AMSL. Re-hydration and snack break.
12:15 PM – Arrive at Pos.2 “Tengengean”, 1500m AMSL. Re-hydration and snack break.
13:15 PM – Reach Pos.3 “Pada Balong”, 1800m AMSL. Enjoy a one-hour lunch break and rest.
14:15 PM – Begin the challenging ascent to Sembalun Crater Rim, also known as “Plawangan Sembalun.” This steep and demanding trek takes about three hours, with frequent breaks for hydration and snacks.
17:30 PM – Arrive at Sembalun Crater Rim Campsite. Upon reaching the campsite at 2620m AMSL, your porters and guide will set up camp and start preparing dinner. Meanwhile, you’ll have time to relax, explore the ridgeline, and capture stunning views.
18:30 PM – Dinner will be served as the sun sets above the clouds, offering a truly unforgettable experience. As night falls, the sky will come alive with stars, providing incredible stargazing opportunities. We recommend getting an early night, as the next day will be equally demanding.
Hydration: Staying hydrated is essential. Carry a water bottle that can be refilled at rest stops. Your guide will provide water and isotonic drinks throughout the day.
Sun Protection: The open savannah offers little shade, so please wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from direct sunlight, even if it’s cloudy.
Temperature Drop: Once you reach Sembalun Crater Rim, the temperature will drop significantly, especially after sunset. Make sure to change into warm, dry clothes upon arrival at camp to stay comfortable.
Accommodation: You’ll be sleeping in shared tents, equipped with comfortable sleeping mats, fresh sleeping bags, and pillows. If you prefer your own tent, please contact us in advance to arrange a private setup.
Meals: Enjoy freshly prepared meals by your porters, who will cook dinner under the stars at Sembalun Crater Rim. Let us know in advance if you have dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or Halal preferences.
Stargazing: The crater rim offers stunning opportunities for stargazing. Take some time after dinner to admire the night sky before getting an early rest for the next day’s challenges.
Day 2 is the highlight of your adventure, covering approximately 13.5km with an elevation gain of 1,756m. Your day starts early with an exhilarating ascent to the summit of Mount Rinjani, where you’ll witness a spectacular sunrise and breathtaking views stretching across Lombok and beyond.
After soaking in the beauty of the summit, you’ll descend back to the Sembalun Crater Rim campsite for a hearty breakfast. From there, the trail leads down to the serene Segara Anak Lake, a perfect spot to unwind. Here, you can take a refreshing dip in the lake, explore the area, or relax in the rejuvenating natural hot springs – a well-deserved treat after the morning’s efforts.
In the late afternoon, you’ll set up camp by the lake, surrounded by nature’s tranquility. This overnight lakeside stay offers a chance to truly connect with the breathtaking landscape before the next stage of your journey.

02:00 AM – Wake up, prepare for summit climb. Warm drinks and check equipment.

07:00 AM – Descend to Sembalun Crater Rim campsite.

Summit Ascent: The climb to the summit is steep and demanding, with loose volcanic sand and rugged terrain. Trekking poles are highly recommended to enhance stability during both the ascent and descent.
Dressing for Warmth: Temperatures at the summit can be extremely cold, particularly before sunrise. Dress in warm layers, including gloves and a hat, and adjust clothing as needed throughout the trek.
Stay Hydrated & Energized: Staying hydrated is essential on this physically intense day. Your guide will provide snacks, and hot drinks in thermoses will be available during summit breaks.
Altitude Safety: If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache, nausea, or dizziness, notify your guide immediately. Resting and hydrating can often alleviate mild symptoms.

Upon reaching the rim, you’ll set up camp for the night. The campsite provides breathtaking sunset views, making it the perfect spot to unwind and reflect on the day’s experiences.

Covering a distance of approximately 10.5km with an elevation loss of 2,020m, this day offers a refreshing change of scenery as you trek through lush tropical rainforest. The shaded trail provides cooler temperatures and peaceful surroundings, perfect for reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve just completed.
The descent features well-placed rest stops, allowing you to hydrate, enjoy snacks, and perhaps spot curious monkeys or other wildlife along the way. The vibrant forest canopy, combined with the sounds of nature, creates an enchanting finale to your trek. By mid-afternoon, your adventure concludes at Senaru Village, where you’ll be warmly welcomed at Rinjani Climbing Tours Here, refreshments and your stored luggage await, providing a well-deserved moment of celebration before heading to your next destination.

Multiple rest stops are included along the way to rehydrate and rest. Look out for wildlife, including curious monkeys at certain rest points. Please do not feed or approach the monkeys.

1:40 – 3:40 PM: Retrieve stored luggage and enjoy refreshments at Cafe Rinjani Dawn.
2:15 – 4:15 PM: Depart Senaru for your next destination, whether it’s a hotel, harbor, or another leg of your adventure.
