Useful Information:

  • Accommodation: Your campsite at the crater rim features shared tents, complete with cozy sleeping mats, clean sleeping bags, and pillows. For those desiring extra privacy, private tent arrangements can be made if requested in advance.
  • Meals: Savor freshly prepared meals cooked by your porters, including a hearty dinner at Sembalun Crater Rim. If you have specific dietary needs—such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or Halal—please notify us ahead of time.
  • Stargazing: The remote location and high altitude make the crater rim an ideal spot for stargazing. Spend time marveling at the breathtaking night sky before heading to bed to prepare for the summit ascent.

Day 2Summit, Lake Segara Anak, & Torean Descent

Day 2 is the most demanding and exhilarating part of the trek, covering a total distance of 17km with an elevation gain of 1,756m and a descent of 2,564m. The day begins in the early hours with a challenging ascent to the summit of Mount Rinjani, where you’ll witness a breathtaking sunrise with panoramic views of Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa. After descending back to the Sembalun Crater Rim, the journey continues down to Segara Anak Lake. Here, you’ll enjoy a relaxing break by the serene lakeside, including time to soak in the rejuvenating hot springs and a freshly prepared lunch.

In the afternoon, the adventure intensifies as you begin the descent via the Torean Route, passing dramatic ridgelines, lush valleys, and cascading waterfalls. Useful Information:

  • Summit Climb: The trek to the summit is steep and demanding, with loose volcanic gravel underfoot. Trekking poles are strongly recommended to improve stability and reduce strain on your legs during both the ascent and descent.
  • Cold Temperatures: Pre-dawn temperatures at the summit can be freezing, especially with the wind chill. Wear multiple warm layers, including a thermal base layer, gloves, and a hat. Your guide will provide hot drinks to help you stay warm.
  • Hydration & Snacks: The combination of high altitude and physical exertion makes hydration critical. Your guide will carry snacks and thermoses with hot drinks for summit stops. Bring a refillable water bottle or hydration pack for regular sips.
  • Altitude Awareness: Symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches or nausea, may occur during the summit climb. Inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell. Rest and hydration often help mitigate mild symptoms.
  • Hot Springs: The thermal springs near Segara Anak Lake are a fantastic way to relax tired muscles. Bring a towel and swimwear to fully enjoy this natural feature. The springs are a highlight of Day 2 and a well-deserved reward after the challenging climb.
  • Torean Descent: The Torean Route includes some steep and narrow sections, requiring careful footing and concentration. It is not recommended for those with a fear of heights. Your guide will assist you in navigating these areas safely.
  • Camping Location: Camping near Penimbungan Waterfall offers a serene end to a physically demanding day. The sounds of the waterfall and the starry sky create a peaceful atmosphere for rest and recovery.
  • Weather Preparedness: Afternoon showers are common, so ensure you have waterproof gear and a rain cover for your backpack. Staying dry is key to maintaining energy and comfort.

Day 3Descent to Torean Village

The final day of the trek is a descent-focused journey, covering approximately 5km with an elevation loss of 807m. Starting from the peaceful campsite near Penimbungan Waterfall, the trail continues down through the dramatic Torean Valley. This day is less physically demanding than the previous ones but requires careful footing on steep sections and narrow paths. As you descend, you’ll enjoy stunning views of cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and the majestic valley below. By late morning, you’ll arrive at Torean Village, where transport will be waiting to take you to your next destination.

Approximate Timeline:

  • 07:30 AM – Pack up camp and begin the descent through the Torean Valley.
  • 09:30 AM – Take a short break to admire the valley views and cascading waterfalls.
  • 11:00 AM – Arrive in Torean Village. Meet your driver for the return journey.
  • 12:30 PM – Return to Senaru or your next destination, with time to collect luggage and enjoy refreshments at Rinjani Climbing Tours

Useful Information:

  • Trail Conditions: The descent through the Torean Valley includes steep sections, narrow paths, and uneven terrain. Trekking poles are highly recommended to provide stability and reduce strain on your knees.
  • Waterfall Views: Take time to appreciate the stunning Penimbungan Waterfall and other natural features along the trail. These spots offer excellent photography opportunities, so have your camera or phone ready.
  • Wildlife: Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including birds and small mammals, as you make your way through the valley. While less common, sightings can be a highlight of the day.
  • Hydration: Although the day involves primarily descending, staying hydrated is still essential. Refill your water bottle at rest stops as needed.
  • Safety: The steep paths and loose terrain require careful attention. Take your time on tricky sections, and follow your guide’s instructions to ensure a safe descent.
  • Weather: The lower altitudes in the Torean Valley can be warmer and more humid than previous days. Dress in light, breathable layers but keep a waterproof jacket handy in case of rain.
  • Refreshments in Torean Village: Upon reaching Torean Village, enjoy a rest before boarding the transport to your next destination. Snacks and drinks will be available to recharge after your trek.
  • End of Journey: Once back in Senaru, you’ll have the opportunity to collect your stored luggage and relax with refreshments at Rinjani Climbing Tours before continuing to your next destination. Be sure to confirm transport arrangements with your guide.
